Canada's Fall Colours: The RV Trip of a Lifetime
Every autumn, Ontario and Quebec transform into a sea of crimson, amber, and gold as millions of sugar maples, red oaks, and birch trees put on their annual show. It's one of the world's great natural spectacles — and an RV is the perfect way to experience it.

The Route: Toronto → Muskoka → Algonquin → Ottawa → Laurentians
Days 1–3: Muskoka & Algonquin Park
From Toronto, drive 2.5 hours north to Muskoka — Ontario's "cottage country" and one of the first regions to turn colour.
- Muskoka Lakes — Drive along Highway 118 and Highway 60 past pristine lakes reflecting autumn colour like mirrors. Stop in Huntsville or Bracebridge for local shops and cafes.
- Algonquin Provincial Park — Ontario's most famous park and the epicentre of fall colour. The Highway 60 corridor (the main route through the park) is one of Canada's most spectacular autumn drives.
- Must-do hikes: Lookout Trail (1.9km, stunning panoramic view), Track & Tower Trail (7.7km, abandoned railway through blazing forest), Centennial Ridges Trail (10km, the best autumn viewpoint in the park).
- Campgrounds: Mew Lake (CA$42–$51/night, electric hookups) or Lake of Two Rivers (CA$42–$51/night, beach access). Book 5 months ahead for October.
Days 4–5: Ottawa Valley
Head east to Ottawa — Canada's capital, beautifully situated where the Ottawa and Rideau rivers meet.
- Gatineau Park — Just across the river in Quebec. The Champlain Lookout offers one of the most famous fall colour views in Canada. Drive the Gatineau Parkway — closed to cars on autumn weekends for cyclists (check dates).
- Parliament Hill — The Gothic Revival buildings framed by autumn colour is iconic Canada.
- Rideau Canal — Walk or bike the canal path lined with blazing maples.
- Camp: Rideau River Provincial Park (CA$36–$45/night) or Wesley Clover Parks (private, CA$45–$60/night, close to Ottawa).
Days 6–8: Mont-Tremblant & the Laurentians
Cross into Quebec and head for the Laurentian Mountains — where the autumn colour is even more intense than Ontario's.
- Mont-Tremblant — Take the free gondola to the summit for 360° views of blazing forest. The pedestrian village has excellent restaurants and a festive autumn atmosphere.
- Parc national du Mont-Tremblant — Paddle a canoe on Lac Monroe surrounded by crimson maples. Camp at Sépaq campgrounds (CA$24–$38/night).
- Route 117 to Parc national du Mont-Orford — Continue the autumn colour through the Eastern Townships (Cantons-de-l'Est), a French-speaking region known for wine, cheese, and covered bridges.
Days 9–12: Montreal & Return
- Montreal — Wrap up with a day in Montreal. Mont Royal is spectacular in autumn — the entire mountain blazes with colour. Walk from the Tam-Tam lookout to the Chalet du Mont-Royal for the city-meets-foliage view.
- Return to Toronto (5 hours) or drop off in Montreal for a one-way rental.
