The Crown Range Road between Queenstown and Wanaka is New Zealand's highest sealed road — spectacular but steep and winding. In winter it can be icy. The road to Milford Sound (Milford Road / SH94) is one of the world's most scenic drives but is single-lane in parts and closes in heavy rain or snow. Allow 4+ hours each way.
