Why Start in Sunshine Coast?
The Sunshine Coast is one of Australia's most loved campervan getaways — a string of relaxed beach towns from Caloundra up to Noosa, backed by the lush Sunshine Coast Hinterland and the Glass House Mountains. It sits just over an hour north of Brisbane, so most travellers collect their van in Brisbane and drive up, making it the perfect easy first leg of an East Coast road trip or a laid-back week of beaches, national parks and farmers' markets.

Practical Info for Sunshine Coast
Pickup & Depot Info
The Sunshine Coast has very few campervan depots of its own, so almost everyone picks up in Brisbane (about 1.5 hours south), where every major brand — Apollo, Britz, Maui, JUCY, Spaceships and more — has depots near the airport. From there it is a simple, fully sealed drive north up the Bruce Highway. Sunshine Coast Airport (Maroochydore) is an option if you are flying in, but vehicle choice is far greater out of Brisbane.
Driving Tips
The Bruce Highway (M1) links Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and is an easy dual-carriageway drive. The Glass House Mountains tourist drive and the hinterland roads up to Maleny and Montville are winding and steep in places — take them slowly in a larger motorhome. Beachfront parking at Noosa and Mooloolaba is limited and time-restricted in summer, so arrive early or use the larger car parks set back from the sand.
Caravan Parks & Campgrounds
The Sunshine Coast is exceptionally well set up for campervans. Noosa River Holiday Park and the council-run Noosa North Shore camping are favourites near Noosa. Cotton Tree Holiday Park sits right on the Maroochy River, and BIG4 Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) has full family facilities. Beerwah and the Glass House Mountains area offer quieter bush and hinterland sites. Book well ahead for Queensland and NSW school holidays, when coastal parks fill fast.

Best Time to Travel
The Sunshine Coast enjoys a warm subtropical climate all year. Winter (June–August) is arguably the best time — dry, sunny days of 18–23°C, perfect for the beaches and hinterland walks. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant with fewer crowds. Summer (December–February) is hot and humid (25–30°C) with afternoon storms and busy, higher-priced school-holiday periods, but the surf and swimming are at their best.
How Much Does Campervan Hire Cost in Sunshine Coast?
Most travellers pick up in Brisbane (about 1.5 hours south) where budget 2-berth vans start from around $50/day and 4-berth vans average $90–$150/day. Sunshine Coast holiday parks cost roughly $40–$75/night for a powered site, more in the December–January peak. No tolls on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane. Fuel and groceries are cheapest in the larger centres like Maroochydore.
Prices are indicative and vary by season, vehicle type, and rental duration. Compare live prices above for the most accurate rates.
