Practical Info for Byron Bay
Pickup & Depot Info
Byron Bay does not have major campervan depots. Most travellers pick up their campervan in Sydney (750km south) or Brisbane (770km north) and drive to Byron Bay as part of the East Coast route. Driving Tips
The Pacific Highway (M1) is excellent — fully dual carriageway between Sydney and Brisbane. Exit at Ewingsdale Road for Byron Bay. Parking in Byron Bay town centre is extremely limited and expensive, especially in summer — many streets have 2-hour limits. Use the Butler Street Reserve free car park or the paid lots near the beach. The lighthouse walk is accessible but the road up is restricted for large vehicles.
Caravan Parks & Campgrounds
First Sun Holiday Park is right on Main Beach — the most central option but books out months ahead in summer (from $70/night). Suffolk Park Holiday Park is a quieter alternative 5 minutes south. Broken Head Holiday Park is a beautiful beachside bush setting 10 minutes south. The Arts Factory Lodge has budget camping options. Book well ahead for December–January.
