Why Start in Sydney?

Sydney is Australia's most iconic city and a major campervan hub. Head north along the coast to Byron Bay and Brisbane, or south through the stunning Royal National Park to Melbourne. The Blue Mountains are just a 90-minute drive west.

Top Things to Do Near Sydney

Must-visit attractions and experiences within easy driving distance of Sydney — perfect day trips and stopovers for your campervan adventure.

Blue Mountains

1.5 hours west

Dramatic sandstone cliffs, the Three Sisters, and dozens of bushwalking trails through eucalyptus forests.

Hunter Valley

2 hours north

Australia's oldest wine region with 150+ wineries, gourmet restaurants, and cheese producers.

Royal National Park

1 hour south

The world's second-oldest national park with coastal walks, swimming holes, and Wedding Cake Rock.

Jervis Bay

3 hours south

Home to Hyams Beach (famously white sand), dolphins, whale watching, and Booderee National Park.

Port Stephens

2.5 hours north

Stunning bay with wild dolphin pods, massive sand dunes for sandboarding, and whale watching.

Practical Info for Sydney

Pickup & Depot Info

Sydney campervan depots are concentrated in two areas: near Sydney Airport (Mascot/Botany) and in the inner-western suburbs (Alexandria/Homebush). Apollo, Britz, Maui, and Star RV all operate from the airport precinct. Travellers Autobarn and JUCY are in Alexandria. Free airport shuttle transfers are standard with most brands. Allow 30–60 minutes for the pickup process.

Driving Tips

Sydney has extensive electronic tolling — the Harbour Bridge, Harbour Tunnel, M2, M5, M7, WestConnex, and NorthConnex are all tolled. Set up a visitor e-TAG or toll pass online before driving. Avoid driving through the CBD in a large campervan. Use the M1 south for Melbourne or the M1/Pacific Motorway north for Brisbane. Parking restrictions are strict — always check signage.

Caravan Parks & Campgrounds

Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park (Narrabeen) is the closest beach-side option, about 30 minutes from the CBD. Lane Cove River Tourist Park is set in beautiful bushland close to the city. Discovery Parks Sydney is a solid family-friendly option. For your first or last night, consider staying at a park near the airport for convenience.
